Psychotropic Medication Management

Psychotropic medications are prescription drugs used to manage mental health conditions. The purpose of the medication is to reduce or eliminate psychiatric symptoms to help improve an individual’s quality of life.

Individuals must enroll at OBHC to receive psychotropic medication management services.

Referrals

Conditions that can be treated with psychotropic medications include:

  • Depressive disorders

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Psychotic disorders

  • ADHD (Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder)

  • Bipolar disorder

  • Trauma-related disorders, including PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder.

Psychotropic medication management services include:

  • Initial psychiatric diagnostic evaluation to determine if medication is recommended.

  • Medication recommendation and prescription by a board-certified clinician who specializes in psychotropic medication therapy/management.

  • Client education on medication choices, side effects or risks, safety, and effectiveness.

  • Collaboration with primary care providers and other behavioral health team members when necessary.

  • Regular follow up appointments to monitor for medication effectiveness and/or adverse effects, and make any necessary medication adjustments.
