OBHC Benefits from GiveNCW Campaign

Okanogan Behavioral HealthCare (OBHC) is one of dozens of nonprofits in north central Washington that benefited from the 2023 GiveNCW Campaign coordinated by the Community Foundation of North Central Washington (CFNCW). OBHC raised over $2,500 for its Highland Center drop-in day program that supports individuals learning to manage their mental health and/or recover from substance use disorders.

“The benefit of these donations goes far beyond what we can buy with the dollars donated,” said Russ Matthynssens, the Manager of Highland Center. “By contributing, people are telling Highland Center participants that their recovery is important because they are valued as part of our community. That encouragement and support helps people heal.”

The funding supports Highland Center’s Art of Recovery project that provides participants with learning and resources to use art therapeutically as part of their recovery process and ongoing mental wellness.

Eighty nonprofits in Chelan, Douglas, Grant and Okanogan counties participated in this year’s fundraising effort, raising a record $686,899 in donations between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve. Eleven of those organizations are in Okanogan County, and included: Green Okanogan, North Valley Hospital Foundation, Okanogan Behavioral HealthCare, Okanogan County Child Development Association, Okanogan County Search and Rescue, Okanogan Highlands Alliance, Okanogan Land Trust, Okanogan Regional Humane, Pateros Apple Pie Jamboree, Pateros Brewster Community Resource Center, and Pateros Treehouse.

“We are very grateful to everyone who donated through the Give NCW campaign,” said Matthynssens, “and especially to CFNCW for their efforts that further the work of nonprofits in our communities.”
